Moments from my day

There are times when I don't feel like compromising or waiting for a better day. Today was one of those days. I had an idea in mind of what I wanted from my day and decided to bring it forth. Sometimes your day dictates to you and sometimes you need to dictate to your day "this is how it's going to be!" My day listened.

I started by telling my day I wanted a thrifted mini backpack. My sister was kind enough to drive me out to the store and low and behold a Derek Alexander leather mini backpack was waiting for me. It was a steal at only 2 dollars. I also bought a long button down vest for $2.50. And my sister found a large stylish carpet bag for $4.00. Needless to say it was a good thrifting day.

I also decided today I was going to eat Mcdonalds. Without giving a care to nutrition or fat content, I indugled and felt very pleased about it. But while smiling at my meal, strawberry punch poured in my sister's car landing on my favorite trench. I guess it was my day's way of saying, "you can't have it all perfect." No bother. I'm too happy about the comment my professor left on my final paper to mind any spills and mishaps.

In fact I am posting her comment here, because I may never see a pleasant review of a graded work again. That and it may motivate me the next time I stress about a paper.

Dear Adelaide,

This is an excellent paper and a pleasure to read. I have pointed to certain sreas that could use more careful thinking and questioning; however, you have pulled together key contexts in evaluating the issue of individual rights and freedoms and the controls in place.

Best of luck in your future endeavours.

Change Me 2012

Change seems to be falling from the sky. I let it crash upon me without dodging. There is no time to ask for more time. Today is here. Yesterday is buried. All the yesterdays made a circle of 365 that tic toced away until before I realized I was standing in the exact place I had when the clock struck 12 last year. But I wasn't the same. Things aren't the same. Change fell. I let it fall on me. But I stand here feeling childish, like a school girl going to her first class for the first time. I felt, I had not grown. Time moved. I watched it, but I didn't move with it. Was it fatigue or was it fear? I can't tell. But my long sock are as higher in spirits than me.
The year felt shorter than my skirt, yet ballooned to exaggerate and falsify more .

I watched the days like a movie. Seeing the characters, me, play their part and only being able to watch. There is only one show playing, my life, and I can't do much more but watch and wait for a change in scene. Change is coming. I talk  back to the show, wishing the characters could hear me, the way you yell out during a horror flick "don't go into the basement." It's like when you cover your eyes at the scary parts, but behind your shut eyes you can still see everything that is happening. The show plays on whether you want to watch or not. The show doesn't end it simply changes. New roles, new lessons, new feelings, but the same show.

I try to kick away the school girl feelings. "Grow up" I say, "grow." Time is moving and you're still at the same place. My height is tall; my courage measures short. I still close my eyes at the scary parts. And like a backward Cinderella, I expect everything the be different at the stroke of 12. As if everything will be fairytale happy after screaming out New Year cheers. It won't. Like Cinderella things will go back to the same, unless I make a change. There will be change. Change is already falling and I'm not moving out of it's way. Come forth my tomorrow, my new year. Give me new lessons, new moments, something new. Give me change.

Attack of the warm fuzzies

Does happiness travel through the air? If it does my dear friend and I were attacked with it in the park. It floated on soft white clouds and blew around us, drifting gently to the ground.

The wind carried these fuzzy warm feelings through the air as if to say, smile...the sun it out and the day is blessed.

Amy and I tossed aside our accessories and danced in the fairy tale like park, even enjoying a private concert that could have been conducted by the pixies themselves. The flute fluted. The sun glistened and happiness danced inside me. I threw my cares in the wind and the wind brought me back smiles.

We made no fuss, just played with fuzz. We bartered our burdens for belly laughs. The wind said, yes I will take your frowns and you can have a full day of fuzzy fun. The wind made no reservations; it sent those clouds of happiness down in swarms. I wondered if it was a fair trade, for I spent the day in bliss but the wind had nothing but a past frown.

Darling wind attack me with your fuzzy love whenever you please and I shall give you my sorrows.

Warm my head and warm my heart

The sun shone as brightly as my yellow toque the day I took this picture. Spring had settled and there wasn’t an icicle in sight. But still I felt cold. A chill crossed upon me: uninvited, and unfitting of the cheery yellow that shone through the window.

There are days when the sun itself cannot fill me. Its heat does not penetrate. On those days when I need more, I turn to the one who controls the rays. I put on my cap of sunny yellow and pray a prayer for your warmth oh Lord. Only you can warm my heart and set a fire in my soul large enough to keep the winters of life at bay.

I tried many things that day to sustain the warmth, attempting one substitute after the other: hats, sweaters, blankets and warm delicious stew made by my hands thinking it would lock in the heat. But there was nothing that could truly suffice. Nothing could take your place and embody your love.

A hat on my head for days of chill, a belly of stew for evenings of cold hunger, and the Lord in my heart for an eternity of warmth.

Unleash my imagination

Dress: thrift store
Tights: thrift store
Shoes: thrift store
Necklace: Borrowed

I want to fling myself off the corners of my imagination into the depths of a dreamy realm to question my sanity and play with illusions. I want to supper with monsters in disguise and fairies with tales. I want to walk through misty marshes with knights who looks for princesses with crumbly hearts held together by mere hope and wishes.

Shadows

Sometimes I purposefully stay in the shadows, just so I can appreciate the light. Don't we just want to turn ourselves to the bright rays of light, even the smallest ones, when we are deep in the darkness. Everything looks so beautiful in the light. Like the vase of flowers in this picture. Today I will turn towards the light, even if it is just speck.

I want to be beautiful

The world is full of such beautiful things, snowy mountains, and cherry blossoms, sea coral and dirt roads and every creature that walks this world. You and I are both beautiful. But sometimes I don't feel I belong in this world of such bountiful beauty.
I don't mean in the vain sense. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, so to strive to be beautiful in the physical sense is a waste-less cause. One may look at me with appeal and another can turn away without hesitation. I cannot please everyone. But I do want to please God. I want to be beautiful for him. I shudder to think he may look at me with disappointment. I don't know if he beholds me with the same esteem as we do a blossoming spring flower, but I want my friend Jesus to teach me. Teach me how to be beautiful by guiding me. Make my soul a wonder. Make my heart the fairest of them all.

The 80s- take me there

The 80s were a time of transition or so I think. I was barely around during that time. But movies like 16 candles and the breakfast club have me wishing that the 80s would somehow come back in its glory and let me be a teen for one day in it. A teenager in the 80s probably wasn't any different from one today. At least not in the grand scheme of things. They danced, laughed, cried and forgot that they wouldn't remain that way forever. That's one of the things about being a teenager. You want to grow up, but you forget you will. You forget that time doesn't stop or wait for anyone. It's fair to us all. How we use it, and our attitude towards it, is what sets apart. We can't be teens forever, but we can always dance, laugh, cry, and appreciate that we are getting older and better.
