New Favorite Collection: Astridland.com

Soft to the skin; can make a bold statement; looks good with almost everything--that's how I'd describe my new top from Astridland.com. Astrid was kind enough to send me a top from her collection and it was simply love at first sight.

Included with the package was her lookbook, which gave me even more reason to fall for this collection. Astrid is an incredible designer. Her clothes are both versatile and daring. This isn't an easy task to pull of, since statement making pieces can often be too trendy. But with Astrid's line, it's easy to take any item and work it into your wardrobe.

Whats more, my top is very comfortable. I love the feel of it; it's just so soft and of great quality.

If you have a chance, check out Astrid at her Fashion Presentation on Sept 10 at the Apple Store, 1 block away from the Mercedes Benz Fashion Tents from 6-8 PM.

I heart these overalls

We made friends with the lilies, letting them be
They grew wild, uninhibited and free
For friends let friends live life as need be
Friends simply want friends to be happy.

For a while now, I wanted a pair of skinny jean overalls. This was easier said than done, as most were way out of my price range. But early this year, I found a pair on Aliexpress that fit my needs. The paticular seller I bought them from is no longer selling them, but searching "skinny denim overalls women" should turn them up. These were only $17.00  and I love them. They have a heart shaped pocket on the front, and embroidered hearts on the back pockets. While I was hoping for them to be a little more form fitting, I like the baggy roomy feel. They are super confortable, and I know I'll be wearing them for many suns and moons. The top is also from Aliexpress.com.

I believe in daydreams

I believe in daydreams and warm cups of tea
Hand written postcards sent from you to me

I believe in laughter shared with a friend
Long summer days that you never want to end

I believe in lips that speak only of love
The greatest of all reigns from up above

A New Dawn

A new dawn broke through winter's chill
And with it, I could sense a thrill
From within me hope began to spill
It watered my garden of dreams and will
Like Lillie's, and pretty daffodils
My heart began to blossom and refill
The life within me that was once so still
Now took flight like birds over hills
The winter drew back into darkness until
The dawn of spring brought back my will

Mod Cloth Haul/Review

After years of simply browsing, I finally did my first mod cloth haul! Modcloth.com is a online shop that features clothes, accessories and home items that are vintage inspired. Being a girl who loves 50's and 60's style, the site always draws me back to look at what they have in stock. However, I've always found their things a little pricey (unless they have a huge sale.) But a particular item, made me decide to go from browser to buyer and I managed to get all the items for less than their original price. Checkout the video above to learn more about my shopping experience and the items I purchased.

Your heels click the pavement as you walk towards the rose gardens. The springtime sun is setting, adding a perfect backdrop to what you hope will be a perfect evening. Beside a little fountain, he waits for you. He is all smiles, as he admires your outfit and the sweet smell of vanilla that you spritzed in your hair just before leaving. After handing you a rose, he kisses you on the cheek and whispers to you "you look flawless". You blush, like a rose.

Hey there, July

Hey there July, have you come to break my heart or kick start it? Are you looking for a victim or a friend? I could be smiling, tearing up from summer time laughter or shedding streaks of summer time blues. July, you bring so much excitment. The thrill of your arrival is too much for one girl sometimes.

Ah, but you never make any promises, not real ones anyway. Sunny days, heated nights, sun soaked memories and stormy thunderous serenades. July can make you do anything and be anything. It can leave you blissed from summer sweetness as you run through the streets chasing your summer star or leave you wading through it's pool of summer sadness.

Hey there July, will you make me smile or make me cry?

Sushi and High Heels

I think we all have that one meal we crave often. For me, it's sushi. Walking past sushi restaurants is impossible for me. There is something about it--maybe the variety--that makes me opt for it whenever I'm hungry. Put me in a quiet corner, with nothing but sushi, and I'll consider it a makeshift heaven.

Seeking Style On Style Says

One of the reasons I love fashion blogging is the ability to get inspired by stylish people in all parts of the world. The World Wide Web has made it easy to see not only what is fashionable in different parts of the world, but what people my age are wearing and to what. Fashion blogs are extremely inspiring and influential to today’s fashion industry and it’s always fun to look at the way they’ve pieced together their outfits.

However, up until recently, it wasn’t easy to imitate a blogger or even celebrity look. Even though countless websites and bloggers were sharing where they got the clothes they weren’t able to let you buy the same or similar items. I’m sure we’ve all been there at least once—you see a great style/fashion blogger outfit and think “WHERE CAN I GET SOMETHING LIKE THAT?”

This is just one of the reasons why I like Stylesays.com. The website is focussed not just on sharing pieces and outfits, but letting members recreate and buy the outfits. Style says tags every item in an outfit photo and provides a link to purchase them, as well as similar items from different price points.

This makes it easy for virtually any budget to be able to grab the looks they love. Stylesay’s clipping tool is incredibly simple to use, and the website is overall addicting! I’ve been a member of this site for a while and my first thought when I joined was “FINALLY!” since I had yet to see any site like it that caters to stylists and fashionistas. It’s a fun way to seek out world wide trends, follow bloggers, get inspired by different styles and of course shop!

Check out their new website and join today! If you have an account follow me. I’ll follow back.

Tuesday Treasure: Wild About Wildfox Advertising

I'm wild over Wildfox Couture at the moment. I found out about the brand early this year, around March, and I've been addicted ever since. The thing is, it's not the clothes I'm crazy about but the way they promote the clothes. Wildfox Couture presents their lines in a short music video commercial, where different models sport outfits featuring the brand. Free People and several other companies do this. But I find Wildfox does it best. The videos are playful, entertaining and let you get a look at the clothes in a rather inspiring manner, as different outfit stream across the screen. I'm hooked on these videos and love seeing what Wildfox has done in previous seasons to showcase their brands clothing. Take a look at the video below to see what I mean.

Sounds for a memory

Music plays in the background, something foreign from my native tongue, most likely Korean. Drops of rain splash against my window and roof. A click, click, clicking is heard several times as I try to get the camera to capture a picture, a moment, a memory, a piece of my heart...to share with you.

So Test Me June

Life is full of tests isn't it? Minor ones, major ones, some you can prepare for and others you never saw coming.

It feels good, doesn't it, to pass life's challenges I mean. But what if you know you're failing. It is possible to feel like a complete failure at some of the tests life throws at you. Or to feel tired of the constant preparation for the next big hurdle.

Take a deep breath.

That's what I tell myself. As I stand outside watching the world change into a beauty of flora, I breathe in summer. I breathe in life.

There are days when I want life to give me a break. Stop testing me I plead. I need time to just be, to breathe.

But then I remember everyone shares this story. Everyone is being tested. And without a life's challenges how would I know what I was capable of. Would I love summer as much if I never endured winter?

The hardships of life can be in there own way, rewarding. They draw out your strength. They help you get creative, assertive, aware.

With each test I come into a kind of summer, a self blossoming. And despite knowing there is another test just around the corner I take the time to breathe, to be proud of myself, and to reassure myself "I can do it"

So if you must June, test me. Bring on your thunder storms and cloudy days. I won't begrudge you. Bring me rains for my garden. Help me blossom.

Always be a flower

In the search for love or friendship look for someone who see your beauty in all stages of your life. Look for someone who will say “I will be there when you are no more than a budding seed; I will be there when you begin to blossom, and I will be there when your petals begin to fall because no matter what you will always be a flower.” Don’t look for someone who only wants you at your best-- blossomed with your full beauty too obvious to miss. Their eyes will turn away when you are not a typical beauty. Don’t look for someone who wants you as a seed: fragile, vulnerable, and needy.  Their need to be depended on will make it difficult to grow and find your own sense of self. Look for someone who appreciates and see all your beauty and awe in each moment of your life.

An exciting feeling

There is something about making a new friend. It is a feeling that cannot be imitated. To feel a connection with another so different and yet so similar; to permit someone into your life, handing them a key to the doorway of your thoughts. It is mysterious and wonderful.

I believe the nicest thing I ever heard was "thank you for being my friend." Friends have a bond that is difficult to explain to others not in the relationship. They have their little jokes, their memories, their secrets. Someone becoming my friend means they are willing to be a part of my life and want me to be a part of theirs. The notion of becoming a part of someone's life story is quite flattering if you think about it.

Not everyone makes friends easily. Many struggle. They have trouble relating to people; they don't like the feeling of opening up and letting them in or they fear they may one day find themselves alone again, which is very difficult to deal with. Losing a friend can feel like losing a family member.

But to have even one person to talk to, even for a dash of time, is something worth cherishing and risking for.

To all my friends, thank you for letting me be part of your life story. Thank you for being a part of mine.

Thrifting my way to spring

Snow continues to fall from the heavens. While others speak of sunny skies and chirps from the morning robin, I'm still waiting for the weather to grant me some warmth. As I wait for spring to truly arrive here in my city, I thrift. I'm hoping mother nature will get the hint if I keep filling my drawers with springtime wear.

There are a number of thrift shops where I live, but there is one in particular that I think about first when I need something. These are my most recent purchases from there. I don't remember the exact price of the items, but I know that none of the items cost more than $5.00.

Unload

Songs of Kabir LXI said, With the load of desires which you hold on your head, how can you be light?...Keep within you: truth, detachment, and love.

I take this quote to heart and try to make it part of my life.

We are so full of want. So much so that we forget what we genuinely and deeply need. More so, we forget that we need so little.

I feel a need to want less. I am inspired to unload, detach and renouce claim over my vain desires...or at least remind myself to.
